Lingual braces are an exciting development in the field of orthodontics, because they provide the perfect solution for patients who want to undergo treatment without worrying about their appearance during the treatment process. The system is similar to fixed braces but requires that the appliance be fixed to the back of the teeth (the lingual side) so this is an excellent option if you are looking for an alternative to invisible braces.
At Bucklersbury Dental Studio, Dr Shakir Mughal is highly trained and has a great deal of expertise in fitting lingual braces. The procedure is more complex than standard fixed systems. This is because the back of the teeth are shaped differently and the brackets placed individually. However, Dr Mughal has advanced training in this area and has helped to create hundreds of beautiful, straight smiles. You can see examples of Dr Mughal's work by visiting out smile gallery.
What are the benefits?
The main benefit is that that the appliance is virtually invisible to others. The braces are fitted to the back of the teeth and so you will not need to worry about unveiling a mouth full of metal when you smile. The idea of lingual braces may seem quite painful and odd, but the appliance is much smaller and finer than traditional options. The treatment has also been developed using the latest technology in order to prevent friction and discomfort.
The appliance can be fitted to the upper and lower teeth and it is suitable for a wide range of orthodontic problems, including:
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps between the teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Twisted teeth
About the treatment process
The procedure is fairly complex and requires that your dentist have the necessary skills and expertise. Dr Mughal will place each bracket individually and then pass the wire through. Once the brace is fixed into position we will arrange regular check-ups to make sure that you are happy with the progress of your treatment. The length of treatment will depend on your particular case; less complex treatment may only take 6-8 months, but more complex cases can be longer. We will discuss lingual braces treatment times with you during an initial consultation.
